BOOKS:
Judy
’s
Life on a Farm
series looks at the hard work and simple pleasures found living
and working on a farm as told from a child's perspective.
Written on a third grade reading level, with an interest level
for grades K-6, each book is filled with colorful photographs
(thanks to David
Lorenz Winston) depicting the farm, and
the child's responsibility and teamwork.
The nine book series covers life on a pig, cattle, crop, goat,
horse, chicken, dairy, and sheep farm, and an apple orchard.
READERS
THEATRE SCRIPTS:
For
How and Why Stories for Readers Theatre,
Judy has created 40 scripts based
on imaginative and creative “porquoi” stories
that stem from multicultural folktales and Native American
legends. Curious first through fifth graders discover “how”
and “why” things happen, as they read
and “act out” these scripts. An introduction explains
what Readers Theatre
is, how, where and when it may be used, and offers suggestions
for writing original scripts. The 40 scripts are short, with
appropriate vocabulary and sentence structure for young readers.
Additional
readers theatre scripts appear in magazines, and in Mel
White’s Anthology (Meriwether
Publishing).
PLAYS:
Her
first play, Red vs the Wolf,
won the Margaret Bartel Children’s
Play Writing Contest (1987), and was published
a year later by Pioneer Drama,
Inc. After ten
years Pioneer asked
Judy to collaborate
with composer David Reiser to turn her play
into a muscial, The Real
Story of Little Red Riding Hood. Together
Judy
and David wrote
two more musicals - The Real
Story of the Three Little Pigs and
In the Soup, both published by Drama
Source.
Judy
also scripted her adaptations of the folktales,
The Golden Goose, published by
Pioneer Drama
and Rapunzel
published
by
Drama
Source.
